God’s Promise of Eternal Life

Each of us will face the loss of someone we love many times in our lives. Even though we mourn the loss of those we love we as Christians still have comfort in God’s promise of eternal Life through Jesus Christ, our Savior. In that promise is our comfort, even though our loved one is gone from our sight they now have a new glorious body, and are now living in heaven in the presence of our Savior with no more cares, pain, or sorrow. We can take comfort in knowing that someday we can be with them again, never again to say goodbye.

Jesus’ promise to us:

John 11:23-27 Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and life. Just believe on me and you will have eternal life.”

23 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.

24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

27 She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.

The result of our faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God is eternal life in heaven with Him.

John 14:1-3 Jesus said, “Don’t let your hearts be trouble for I have gone to prepare you a mansion in heaven.”

1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you.

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

What a wonderful promise to take comfort in. Jesus has prepared a mansion in heaven for each of us. As a Christian we all long to be in heaven with God. Not that we want to taste death but to simply be in the presence of the Father forever.

Philippians 1: 20-23 Paul said:

20 According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.

21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

22 But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.

23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:

As a Christian death has no hold over us, for death is just the doorway into our glorious new home..

II Corinthians 5:1-8

For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands (a new resurrected body), eternal in the heavens.

2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven (an eternal immortal body):

3 If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.

4 For we that are in this tabernacle (earthly body) do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life (eternal).

5 Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.

6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:

7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

I Corinthians 15: 20-23

20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming. (Thank You, Jesus!!)

I Corinthians 15:50-58

50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (Halleluiah)

58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Paul was ready to make his journey home. We also should be ready when Jesus calls us home.

II Timothy 4:6-8

6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.

7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

We can be comforted and can comfort each other with the Lord’s promise He has given us of everlasting life in heaven with Him.

I Thessalonians 4:13-18

13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

I have come to realize that the date of my death in this physical body is the first day of my new birth into eternal life. So when my time comes to go home mourn for a time my absence from your life then celebrate my new eternal life in heaven and prepare to come be with me and the Father one glorious day.
